Taking Special Kids' Phone Calls
“Daddy-O,” cries Will as he breaks out into a fit of laughter. It’s breakfast time in skilled nursing, and Will’s main focus is getting laughs out of the nurses between bites.
Will is an adorable 2 year-old who is fondly referred to as ‘little man’ around Special Kids. Will started at Special Kids when he was 8 months-old and began receiving services in our skilled nursing program, physical therapy, and later in feeding therapy. Before he was born, Will was diagnosed with intrauterine growth restriction which means that a baby weighs less than 90% of what other babies do at the same gestational age. He was born at 29 weeks and spent the first four months of his life in the intensive care unit. When Will was 20 days old, the doctors discovered he had a heart defect, and at five months, Will underwent open heart surgery to repair his heart.
Today, Will is a lively two-year-old who has graduated from physical thereapy. He still receives feeding therapy and attends Special Kids' Skilled Nursing Program. But as Will munches down on his breakfast of Cheerios and milk, the Special Kids staff can’t help but be excited about yet another milestone that Will is reaching. He has grown and progressed so much in the last year, and before long, we hope to see Will graduating from all of our services. Special Kids will miss our ‘little man’ when its time for him to move on, but we can’t wait to see the plans the LORD has for this special boy!
